ROAD SAFETY ENGINEERING

ROAD SAFETY ENGINEERING

1.          COURSE OVERVIEW

The role of the Road Safety Engineer could be considered a complex role which covers a multitude of disciplines within the field of traffic, road engineering and transportation. Despite the niche role a Road Safety Engineer holds, there has been a lack of any specific formal qualification which the practitioner can undertake to demonstrate their experience and knowledge. The AICD TRAINING recognises this shortfall and this course offers the opportunity for the Road Safety Engineer to expand their knowledge and demonstrate their competency in all aspects of road safety engineering.

This course is designed to enable the participant(s) to understand: Road safety engineering and its application, and to present the different stages of road safety audits and the aspects to consider at each stage.

Besides, iIntroduces the concepts of traffic engineering and explains the fundamental principles of traffic flow theory and analysis. Develops the ability to conduct traffic capacity analysis for various types of roads and intersections. An understanding of road safety is also developed.

2.      COURSE OBJECTIVES

The objective of the course is to define road safety engineering and its application, road safety best practice, application on the project life cycle, focus in the different stages of road safety audits and collision analysis techniques

By the end of this course, the participants should be able to understand and appreciate:
  • To enable students to integrate theory and practice of road safety evaluation, road safety audit and countermeasure implementation.
  • Importance Road Safety Engineering,
  • Principles of Road Safety Engineering,
  • Road Safety Best Practice,
