The course aims at providing participants with an understanding the key aspects of public finance management.   1. COURSE OVERVIEW?

 

What went wrong in Greece’s handling of its public debt? How does a city government like Detroit go from prosperity to bankruptcy?  And how could the looting, theft and corruption in Malawi’s “cashgate” have been avoided? We are all concerned about where “our” money goes. We all want good roads and schools, thriving industry, and personal and national security, but how can we be sure that public monies are being managed properly, and how can we hold those in charge to account?

 

The course will focus on the basics of Government Finance and how public finance is raised and expenditure is controlled. It will also cover the principles of financial reporting, budget management and Value for Money, including accountancy based business simulation; covers risk management and internal controls; revenue management, investment appraisal and the financial elements of business cases and expenditure management; aspects of contract management;  the  importance and role  of audit in relation to financial andoperational management and concludes by looking at the effective communication of financial information.

1. ABOUT THIS COURSE

 In the past, data collection was performed using paper and pen, which made it prone to error, difficult to conduct on a large scale, and high in transaction costs. ICT tools such as mobile devices and software that allow users to create surveys, collect, manage and upload data to storage facilities in real-time have reduced the conventional challenges associated with remote data collection. One of the commonly used tools is KoBoToolbox.

KoBoToolbox has been used to observe elections, monitor rainforests, track outbreaks, conduct one-off surveys,rapid assessments, baseline studies, project mid-term evaluation, project end-term evaluation, market research,during and directly following disasters and in many other cases.

This course is a hands-on, step by step guide that will teach learners how to setup, administer and manage a mobile based data collection platform using KoBoToolbox.
